Witchford Archers is an open club, unaffiliated with ArcheryGB to ensure costs are kept low for our archers. We shoots at the Royal British Legion, Sutton or at Sutton C of E Primary School.

Shooting times are Sunday afternoon and Wednesday evening. Generally, they are:

  • Wednesdays, Aug-April, 19:00-21:00 at the RBL
  • Wednesdays, April-May/June, 18:00-20:00 at CoE
  • Wednesdays, May/June-July, 19:00-21:00 at CoE
  • Sundays, Oct-March/April, 13:00-16:00 at the RBL
  • Sundays, March/April-Oct, 13:00-16:00 at CoE

Changes are listed on our Calendar, so it's always a good idea to check there or contact the club and join our mailing list.

Fees

The session fee is £6.00 per person for the first session of the week, and the second is free (please be aware that - while not a club registered with ArcheryGB, we will check your competency on your first visit). Members can instead choose to pay £20.00 monthly.

To reiterate: Currently, our fees are as follows:

  1. Standing Order £20.00 per month. This is designed for members who regularly attend club sessions. However, this standing order is flexible – you only need to pay it for the months when you're actively shooting. For example, if you only shoot once a month, you can pay the weekly fee instead of the monthly rate.
  2. Pay As You Go £6.00 per week. This option is suitable for members who attend less frequently. You can pay this via a transfer to our account, which you should all have been sent.

We hope this clarification helps you choose the best option for you. Paying monthly is our preferred method as it helps manage the club's finances. Please don't hesitate to reach out if you have any questions or need help.

If you have any questions about the club, contact us here and join our mailing list.

Beginner courses

If you are a complete newcomer to archery or have had a try-out on an activity weekend, and you are 12 or over, we run four two-hour beginners sessions to give you the proper grounding. All equipment is provided, and you will get personal tuition from one of our experienced coaches.

Vouchers for future beginner's courses can be purchased at the cost of £60 each (a PDF of the certificate will be emailed, if you'd prefer a printed voucher, there will be a £7.00 printing and postage fee) if you would like to give these as a gift to friends or family over 12 years of age who are interested in taking up the sport of archery. Please get in touch with us (and join our mailing list) with the person's details, and a personalised voucher will be sent to you once payment is received. Arrangements for reserving a place on one of our courses will then be made. Please be aware that vouchers will only be valid for a year.

For more information and to sign up, please see our Courses page.

Please note

Under 18-year-olds should be accompanied by a responsible adult at all times
Please see our Safeguarding page for more information.

History

The Witchford Archers archery club was founded in 2011 following the dissolution of the Wychelm Archery Club and the transfer of its assets to this new club.

The Wychelm Archery Club was started in July 2007 and was run by Jonathan Adlem (the CAA Indoor Champion 2005 and 2007), and was based at the Sedgeway Equestrian Centre, Witchford, near Ely, Cambridgeshire. It was affiliated to the GNAS, SCAS and the CAA.

The new club was started by members of the old one in April 2011 and is presently located at the Royal British Legion (RBL) in Sutton and the Sutton C Of E Primary School (CoE). Shooting times are Sunday afternoon and Wednesday evening, generally they are:

The founders of the new club strongly believe in archery as an inclusive family sport that should be accessible to everyone. To this end the club strives to keep charges to a minimum and is a registered charity. We believe financial accessibility actively encourages whole families and juniors in particular to participate.

Whilst archery can be a competitive sport we endeavour to also encourage people who shoot as a recreational activity.
